Can you be allergic to the sun? Yes you can! Sun allergy is a term often used to describe a number of skin conditions in which an itchy or burning red rash occurs after exposure to sunlight. Within hours (or up to 2 to 3 days) the rash usually appears on the head, neck, chest and arms. The face is not always affected.
If you think you have a sun allergy or an increased sensitivity to the sun, go and visit a dermatologist. Also prevent a reaction by taking these steps:
- Avoid the sun during peak hours.
- Avoid sudden exposure to lots of sunlight.
- Apply (ocean friendly) SPF50 sunscreen
- Wear UPF50+ sun protective clothing. Our sun smart & sustainable swimwear has been expertly designed to offer the best balance of coverage and comfort for safe play in the sun
